Step 3: Alignment with Social ChangeMy long-term professional goal is to develop and refine my clinical skills using evidence-based practice so that I may become an active advocate for expanding the role of mental health nursing practitioners within the healthcare system. I will participate in local and national committees thatwill further develop the role of mental health nurse practitioners and be an advocate for mental health nursing by continuing research in the field. This continued research will allow me to demonstrate best practices in my field of nursing. The public and professional view and how the advanced practice nurse (APRN) is defined continues to develop and change, and I plan to continue meeting these obstacles and challenges by staying abreast of new knowledge and research. I welcome these challenges as I believe they will help to perfect my skill set in the field. Using these skills to educate my patients as well as my peers about the role of advance practice mental health nurses while promoting the scope and practice of the APRN will be an ongoing lifelong goal of mine. I believe that to successfully develop the role of the APRN into practice, I will need to demonstrate my acquired expertise with a high standard while delivering care to my clients. In practicing with impeccable expertise,I hope to show by practice, that the role of the APRN is one that can be trusted and respected. I plan to utilize all gained knowledge from Walden University in the form of research and skills to educate the public and community outreach programs, such as the county hospitals and public health department. professional associations and committees to continue to elevate and promote practice autonomy for APRN in the mental health field as well as across the advance practicing nurse fields of specialty in alignment with the University’s emphasis on social change.Part V ConclusionAs a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, I will show compassion, respect, and dignity to all my patients. I will be an advocate for each individual patient as well as an advocate for the profession using the acquired knowledge and skills. I will continue to learn and develop over time, and in doing so, educate and teach patients as well as the community. I will attain the above-mentioned goals and treat my patients in their totality, using a mental health, physical and spiritual approach.
