He is thankful for those who are loyal. Book 23 127. Penelope initially is unaware that the beggar is Odysseus and that he has killed all the suitors. This indicated that she couldn’t tell that Odysseus was the beggar the whole time. The dog could tell, Eurycleia could, but Penelope could not. (315-316) 128. He rebukes Penelope because s-Penelope is not filled with joy as the sight of Odysseus. Telemachus believes his father should be honored in the highest. He has matured because he has now changed his viewpoint from not knowing his father to defending him. In this scene, Telemachus is more loyal to his father. This is ironic because Penelope was the one who raised him for 20 years while Odysseus has been gone at war. (317) 129. After Odysseus returns, Penelope still doesn’t truly believe that Odysseus is actually because he has changed. (319) 130. Odysseus understands that after 20 years it would be hard to recognize someone covered in rags, however once Odysseus is revealed and changed by Athene, Odysseus is upset that Penelope couldn’t not accept that he has returned home. (317- 318) 131. The final test is a test that involves Odysseus’s words and not his appearance. He must explain fully how he created his bed from his own hands. Odysseus does pass this test. (319) 132. They sleep together. It indicates that they’re feelings rekindle and that Odysseus has truly come home to his loving wife. Book 24 133. Done 134. Hermes bring the ghost of the suitors to the underworld, Hades. 135. Laertes is Odysseus’s father. The final reunion is with Odysseus and his father. Yes, there is atonement with Odysseus’ father because he accepts Odysseus. 136. They determine the results of all the situations Odysseus has been. The battle between Laertes and Antinous's father ends with peace from Athene. They, ultimately, decide whether Odysseus will reign a true hero or have his journey cut short by death. (336-339) 137. I think Homer did not write the ending of Book 24. The story could have ended with Book 23 and the story would still be complete. I think the whole story revolved around Odysseus returning home, so ending the story in Book 23 would complete the journey.

64,000.01 Questions 138. Odysseus is both a mortal and larger-than-life figure. At times he shows his human qualities of being upset and depressed, but he also shows bravery and cleverness similar traits to that of an epic hero. 139. In every case of the story, the gods have intervened to help Odysseus except for the encounter with the Cyclops. Because of this, I think Odysseus has completed his journey due to the gods by his side. 140.
