SRDF groups and assign them to Fibre Channel directors or GbE directors. SRDF groups are also referenced as RA groups or RDF groups. Dynamic RDF Configuration State is Enabled by default. In this example, we have a pair of VMAX3 arrays (SID:483 and SID:225) that are SRDF connected. The command has been executed from a host attached to SID:483. So from this perspective, SID:483 is the Local VMAX3 array and SID:225 is the Remote VMAX3 array. The Num Phys Devices column indicates that the host from which the command was executed has physical access to 18 devices on SID:483 and none on the other array. The Num Symm Devices column indicates the total number of devices that have been configured on the respective VMAX3 arrays. A verbose listing of SID:483 shows that Dynamic RDF Configuration State is Enabled. This should be verified for SID:225 as well. Dynamic RDF Configuration State is Enabled by default on VMAX3 arrays. The combination of the ability to dynamically create SRDF groups and dynamic device pairs enables you to create, delete, and swap SRDF R1-R2 pairs. VMAX3 arrays will support up to 250 SRDF groups per array. VMAX3 arrays will support 250 SRDF groups per port. SRDF/Synchronous Operations

First you need to know the SRDF directors (Remote Adapters RA) that are configured on the array. You also need to know the number of SRDF groups (RA groups) currently configured and their corresponding group numbers. The listing shows that you have a pair of Remote Adapters (RF-1E and RF-3E) available. These are Fibre Remote Adapters (RF). Both the Remote Adapters are online. There is one SRDF Group that has been configured to use this pair of directors. SRDF/Synchronous Operations

The director configuration is Fibre Channel-Switched. We will look at the Group and RDFA Flag details in the SRDF/A module. Legend: Group (T)ype : S = Static, D = Dynamic Director (C)onfig : F-S = Fibre-Switched , F-H = Fibre-Hub G = GIGE, E = ESCON, T = T3, - = N/A SRDF/Synchronous Operations

This command helps in situations where RDF groups have not yet been created between the VMAX3 pairs. In such cases where there are no RDF groups configured, the symcfg command in the previous slide will not return any connectivity information. The symsan command is particularly useful to determine the local and remote RDF directors, as well as the full serial number of the remote array. The full serial number of the remote array is required to create the first Dynamic RDF group. Subsequent RDF groups can be created by just specifying the last two digits of the remote array.
