Surname 6 The banning of LSD in 1967 brought about both positive and negative impact on the people in the countries in which the drug was being manufactured and used. The protesting governments were arguing that the massive use of the LSD had affected the normal activities of people in the respective countries (Cornwell and Linders 315). Also, the drug was being used by young and school-going children, and hence it affected the performance. Besides, those who used the drug excessively suffered from sleeplessness, dizziness, loss of appetite, tremors, and weakness among other short-term symptoms. Therefore, banning of the drug rescued many people who had been affected by its use. According to the research done by the chemists, the drug's primary effects were hallucinations, illusions, and visual distortions (Cornwell and Linders 317). Apart from the strange feeling due to the symptoms above, individuals tended to act against the common customs upon experiencing them As such, the abolishment of the LSD drug also led to decreased immorality in the concerned countries including the USA. However, the ban imposed some adverse effects on the countries where it had been used earlier on. Its clinical applications had proved to be dependable, based on the research in the 1950s. The drug proved to be used for psychotherapy due to the good feeling that the psychiatric patients felt after using it. In that case, the abolition of its synthesis forced doctors to look for an alternative drug to give to patients. The Current Use of LSD in the Society Although LSD was banned in the 1970s, its use has been confirmed in that some people use it illegally both in the USA and other countries. Young people are reported to be using the drug to feel the pleasure that accompanies it while ignoring the side effects. Additionally, musicians and other artists who are involved in creative activities have been using it to improve their creativity. Such reports show that even after banning LSD in 1970s people still accessed it. As mentioned earlier teens are among the many people, who abuse LSD currently. According to the reports from the National Institute on Drug Abuse, 4 percent of the 12 th graders and 2.8 percent of the 10 th graders have taken LSD at least once (Blaze Temple and Lo 221).
