There is an AED right inside Arbol De la Vida, where I spend most of my time. Additionally, there is also an AED inside the Coronado residence hall, right next to Arbol De La Vida. As far as across campus I spotted multiple AED’s inside Arizona Sonora residence hall, and many of the science buildings heading towards the main union. The main trend I found was that the AED’s were located more regularly inside science related buildings and residence halls, as compared to other types of buildings on campus Based on the way AED’s work, it is quite difficult to be shocked by accident, especially with newer designs having sticky pads over the paddle design. This coupled with staff being trained better and longer before using these devices allows them to drastically decrease the number of wrong shocks. It is also worth noting that the machines detect a heartbeat and ensure it is “correct” before it dispenses its electric shock. However, if the machine is incorrect in its detection of the heartbeat, it can dispense an “incorrect” shock and therefore almost backfire the heart, causing it to stop. In short, yes, it is possible for a normal heart to be stopped by an AED, however it is very rare for this to happen. References

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
