Waganafeels blessed to have Aunty Jacinta Tobin as their song woman and Aunty Carol Cooper,Darug and Gundungurra Elder as a mentor and friend.Peter White, founderof Wiradjuri Cultural and Environment Rangers (WCER), said it wastime to forget the past and start building the future.WCER is a non-profit organisation aiming to assist aboriginal youth and their families improvetheir cultural, social and economic conditions by employing them as rangers.Youth rangers from 14 to 19 years, and rangers 20 years and older, will assist in feral pestand weed control, identifying and protecting endangered species, managing naturalenvironments and help visitors enjoy national parks. They will also facilitate cultural trainingand art groups. “The intention is also to work with job agencies and assist within the juvenilejustice areas for our youth,” said Peter. He also hopes the program will help break downcultural barriers by inviting non-Aboriginals to learn about Aboriginal culture.WCER will initially be concentrating on the Parkes/Forbes region. “It is important we put bootson the ground to get things done and achieve goals to gain credibility,” said Peter. TheWiradjuri Men's Shed was started by local Peter White, to help bring like minded peopletogether and be inclusive within the community.Mr White said the Wiradjuri Men's Shed has been six years in the making and urges everyoneto come down to the meet and greet barbecue. The Wiradjuri Men's Shed is located at 11Ooma Street at Forbes,Membership to the Wiradjuri Men's Shed is open to all Aboriginal people over the age of 12years. Mr White said membership is open to non Indigenous people if they have skills thatthey can teach and share to help the shed grow. The Wiradjuri Men's Shed will allow membersto build or paint their own art, help build environmental pieces, help with the native nurseryamong other projects.The Congress of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nurses and Midwives(CATSINaM) consists of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander nurses and midwives includingstudents as well as retired nurses and midwives. CATSINaM’s primary aim is to increase therecruitment and retention of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People in nursing andmidwifery.CATSINaM’s vision is that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander nurses and midwives play apivotal and respected role in achieving health equality across Australia’s health system forAboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People and communities.Our purpose is to honour a holistic and culturally safe approach to achieve optimal health andwellbeing for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People and communities.
