Summary our initial hypothesis of the termite

This preview shows page 3 out of 3 pages.

Summary Our initial hypothesis of the termite following the line for camouflage did not seem to be correct because the termite found the line on the paper with each trial only posing a little more of a challenge. For our initial hypothesis to be correct the termite would have not followed the line on the dark paper do it not needing any camouflage. These results let us know that the termite followed the line for a different reason. According to the Lab manual termites primarily communicate through chemical signals and pheromones. As a result it followed the line based on the scent being emitted by the pen ink. As a result it will always find its way to the line so long as it could be smelled. Throughout this experiment there was only one critical mistakes. The mistake being replacing the termite after the first trial. This replacement may have been due to an injury, but it very much could have skewed the results. As result placing a little bit of doubt in our conclusions. As a result, if this experiment was to be done again the same termite would be used throughout the entire experiment. As well as testing the new hypothesis of the termite following the circle regardless of the paper color or writing utensil.
