Practice inquiry is my other strong point. I use my clinical experience to make healthcaredecisions. However, I also conduct consultation from fellow nurses or other medical practitionerswhen dealing with cases that new or relatively complex. Furthermore, I find myself more criticalin applying the set clinical guidelines in practice as there are some cases that require tailoredsolutions. Through, this master’s program my inquiring characteristic has been growing as I havelearned to be looking for an in-depth understanding of every care situation. Policy and Independence practice competencies present with opportunities for growth. The policy involves healthcare system decisions that are focused on the allocation of resources. Ihave an overall glimpse of the healthcare policy but I am yet to get sufficient knowledge onspecific aspects such as legal procedures and determination of costs and quality in the health caresystem. Given that I have a general understanding, it forms a basis to enhance my knowledge andacquire policy competencies practically. On the other hand, independence practice competencies constitute the ability to providecare and services with no supervision or direction. Since in my experience I have never workedindependently without direct or indirect supervision, these competence area has an opportunityof growing as acquire more knowledge on the management of different medical conditions andmaking critical decisions autonomously. Ways to engage with the scholarship to achieve the competencies I will pursue to achieve these competencies through thorough reading to get an in-depthunderstanding of the specific competence aspects. The readings will be guided by the course
6APN PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLANoutline and the NP scholarship recommendation in order to deviate from the required knowledge.Furthermore, focused personal reading equips one with the theoretical underpinnings of thecompetencies, which enable one to effectively apply the competencies. In the same, I will be engaging in regular clinical practice experience, which will be allowing meto translate the competencies from theory to practice. Moreover, clinical experience will give anopportunity to interact with other nurse practitioners from whom I will learn more regarding thecompetencies. Leadership SkillsAPN nurses should display high leadership skills since their roles require them to showleadership in their respective areas. In nursing, leadership is where a nurse leader influencesinnovation in the point-of-care and enhancement care practices at both institutional andindividual level to achieve best care outcomes (Joseph & Huber, 2015). Critical thinking, communication skills, professionalism are some of the leadership skills required for nursingpractitioners, which often become more vital when the NPs find themselves in complex systems.
