Hacking of large corporations such as Equifax has adverse effects on its consumers. It is noted that such information gotten by hackers is sold to interested parties who use it for their own benefit. Moreover, buyers of these “hacked information” tend to black mail their victims. In some cases, due to hackers having millions of consumers personal information the issue of national security arises. For example, there are cases whereby some governments are accused of buying this information from the dark web.

DATA BREACH 4 Companies need to ensure that their data is well encrypted such that hackers have a hard time getting access to personal data. Furthermore, strict measures have to be taken to ensure perpetrators of hacking are sentenced longer jail terms. Firms must also be held accountable if a consumer’s data is breached. The consumer must be compensated for any damages accrued from hacking.
