HR Project Plan 5 Business Strategy Motors and More, Inc. operates under a prospector strategy, which means they take advantage of new markets and product with an emphasis on growth, innovation and development (McCain, 2007, p. 1). The purpose of this strategy is to search for new market opportunities which requires inventive and organizational flexibility. According to LaFond, “To compete in today’s global economy, manufacturers must become Prospector organizations, focused externally on finding new markets and new customers, and developing new products and new services. Prospector companies are fast, flexible, flat organizations that are geared to respond to their customers at various levels within the company” (Manufacturing.net, 2007, para. 4). The new HR director must be able to uphold the vision and strategy of the company using innovative ways of thinking as well as being competitive in the marketplace for employees. In the prospector type environment, efficiency is put on the back burner where creativity and innovation excel. It is important for all members of a prospector company, especially the human resources department, to understand that when hiring new employees, people must feel comfortable with a more decentralized organization. “Decentralization is a type of organizational structure in which daily operations and decision-making responsibilities are delegated by top management to middle and lower-level mangers within the organization, allowing top management to focus more on major decisions” (Joseph, chron.com, 2018, para 1). Decentralization allows for more efficient operations when a small company is trying to grow. It also can empower employees more to be creativity and bigger decision makers throughout the business. It also allows for more creativity and knowledge while employees bring their own ideas to the table and cuts out the “red tape” of an organization without having to go through to many upper level management approvals to execute.

HR Project Plan 6 Motors and More, Inc. need to ensure they are implementing, executing and upholding the prospector strategy vision as they continue to expand and set up their organization. Leadership, including human resources, needs to focus on aggressive marketing strategy, rapid technology, and diversity throughout the business. Human resources should focus on training, external recruitment, decentralized pay, customized reward and appraisal programs, and lastly flexibility amongst its employee base. As McCain states, “Motors and More is eighty-eight percent Caucasian men, with the exception of one female supervisor” (2007, p. 1). With the market being 48 percent minority, the company needs to be more open-minded about diversity and
