I worked there for 10 years and sadly much of the language in the Visions and Values about caring for team members and customers is just words and not lived out by management. I agree, HR is just another 800 number (like much of the support systems there) and the couple of times I tried to use them they were unhelpful, or didn't follow through. Even though I wasn't in retail, most everyone I worked with was familiar with the aggressive sales culture in the stores. Employees even wrote about it on sites like Glassdoor for years. It wasn't a secret. Management looked the other way.
