has left 30, 40, 50 spaces which they don’t have any more so they’ve cut down the car-parking space and tried to better utilise it. We are allowed to park there, visiting teachers are allowed to park there but that’s it. Ok, so we talked about the process of transfer and what happened then and then we haven’t really talked about, I mean it’s quite a long period from when you took it over and when you recently received this grant. So what’s the relationship with the Council been like during that period because you said that to start off with, you know, they thought it would be taken over but it won’t work? There was that and with them closing all the pools and they wanted to carry on closing pools. But it was no skin off their nose. It was a competitive thing. That’s true, so as a competitor they could do without you then. Yes. That was a sour area for years. Things started to soften six years ago ish where they talked to us more. Had quite a good lesson scheme here, were supplying some children to X city swim squad which was down at Ponds Forge and so there was a little area of acceptance. Any reason for that? I think it was just we weren’t going away. I don’t know exactly but say the first six-month period we were expected to fold. We weren’t expected to last anywhere near a year. So once you’ve been there twelve years they started talking to you? Basically, yes, for providing a very good service in the City. Going back to the point at which your present Trustees said we want to take it over, was there any local politics involved in that because some of the facilities we’ve looked at local politics seemed to be particularly important because obviously Councillors it doesn’t look to smart for them if they get ……., (really hard to hear as someone counting money in background)!, so particularly councillors have quite a big political policy, were there any local politics involved in that, I suppose the Council was completely labour-controlled, wasn’t it? I think it was a beaching moment. Ok, so no local politics involved there really. The only politics involved there were they wanted to close it and it was put out that they passed it over to a Trust which no longer was our responsibility because they were having a lot of problems

going round different areas closing the pools in X city, lots of negative feedback coming from the local people in X city …. TAPE ENDED NEW TAPE: But running the pool never happened but the X pool is a smashing pool with a teaching pool at the side and then they turned everything off, job lot, all the pumps, filtration, nothing because if you don’t get some water in that pool circulating through the system you will never open it again. ….

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
