CHAPTER 3-4 Gatsby’s Party: large and extravagant, lots of people, Owl Eyes: Drunk but probably smart. Is in a library with real books and it shows that Gatsby is not a faker and he has real books like a normal person. It's not for show... Nick and Jordan: Nick has a couple drinks and starts to loosen up. Jordan likes the party because large parties are more intimate. You can break off in groups and Jordan likes to gossip(paradox) Meeting Gatsby: Nick felt comforted, confident, believed in himself. Gatsby sees you at your best. Gatsby: He’s not drinking to stay aware of his surroundings. stands out from everyone else, mysterious so people like making rumors. Jordan: very dishonest, cheated in a golf tournament, but Nick still likes her. Feels threatened by smart and shrewd men because they are smart and can see through her tricks. Meyer Wolfsheim: gambler, shady, cufflinks are made from human molars, not educated but clever, fixed the world series. Daisy’s past: didn’t wait for Gatsby, cried when got green letter from Gatsby Green light- Daisy’s light is the one Gatsby was reaching for- hope Gatsby and Daisy: Looked at her like every girl wants to be looked at. CHAPTER 6 Gatsby’s Past: poor, from North Dakota, poor farmers, he created himself as the “Son of God” Gatsby’s mind: He thinks he can control the world. He likes to dream a lot The Sloans: East egg, snooty, social class difference, look down on Gatsby for being so West Egg, Mrs. Sloan is polite, Mr. Sloan is harsh and didn’t like Gatsby Gatsby’s expectations: Wants Daisy to go to Tom and say that she didn’t love him and to leave him. He wants her to understand his perception Gatsby and Time: He believes he can change things to be everything it was before. Life changing moment: Flashback to 1919 when he saw blocks of sidewalk that formed a ladder. He could either choose to climb the ladder of his dreams, or choose the girl. CHAPTER 7 - Longest day of the year, and its insanely hot Gatsby’s Car: Tom Jordan and Nick Tom’s car: ?? Stop at Wilson's Garage: Wilson wants to go West with his wife because he thinks shes cheating. He wants to start fresh, and Tom gives his a farewell gift which was the car he’s always wanted because he feels for the guy. Myrtle in car: scared and emotionless, embodying the valley of ashes, scared that Tom changed his mind. Foreshadowing death- he looked like he killed a man.. Wilson: Maybe thinks it is his fault and does not know how to act about the death - Gatsby hides in the bushes to make sure that Daisy is not hurt by Tom when she tells him what happens Dinner: Daisy is being honest and Tom is understanding. They seemed like a loving couple.
