Know what they mean Psychoanalysis traditional view that turned into egopsychology and not as much as Freudian but more of ego part Treatment part of the first one. Talk therapy treatment, preassociation, dream analysis and catharsis, goal of lifting from unconscious to conscious to help people resolve emotional problems Cognitive behavior is the most dominant in the field today Why? The psychoanalysis is not as popular now because no scientific basis and cannot prove it, go back to long long process of talk therapy not only scientific but also not cost effective 60’s and 70’s want to know that something works and psychoanalysis is not observable but cognitive behavior is medication culture that supports therapy but not the way with psychoanalysis or current theme of psychological work learn through operant, classical conditioning, and modeling, learning how to behave and what you do and what you don’t do learn through good responses or bad responses or through association association example PTSD what they do? Try to change some of those irrational and inappropriate thoughts cognitive behavior finds out how someone learned that and then try to change that learning habit and desensitize them and get used to phobia gradually mental health if phobia about flying, not throw them off cliff but gradually take things that are irrational and become rational. to adapt in program and do well in communities, see that more in cognitive behavior work on thought process and what behaviors you can do cognitive based and two more not pursued as much family systems and humanistic are two more approaches used under psychological perspective humanistic- “loosy goosy” people want to self actualize (all that you want to be) we should facilitate these people and help them reach those levels in their lives people choose and define their own existence- what do you want? What do you want to be? What goals do you have for yourself? Problems come from the failure of self actualizing, what gets in the way of self-actualizing? Needs and values of human beings should be the most important thing. People make most of their potential exactly opposite of that fatalistic attitude goals of the individual and awareness of wanting to achieve that don’t get in their shoes then won’t understand it, use a lot of empathy listening with the third ear- listening with heart and empathy humanistic approach is more spread out then all of the others, hoping everyone uses empathy third concept- unconditional positive regard- no matter what the person does you are going to value them even though you don’t like what they did “good person
