I value personal experiences that allow me to grow professionally and personally into my values. To me keeping your leadership style and personality is check with your values is essential to personal and professional development. As well I feel being a leader is more than just how you behave when you’re on the job. I believe good leaders are well rounded individuals personally and professionally so that their decision making is most sound and applaudable. That is why I also value the concepts of organizational behavior in general. In general, organizational behavior looks at the psychology of the working world as it is full of communication and managing relationships at all levels of business. To be honest, a broad assessment of where I am now it that I have only began to scratch the surface of where I want to professionally. Personally, I am growing through trying to cultivate more self-awareness in the direction I want to go and decision making. The Global Emotional Intelligence Test, recently taken for class discussion, told me that my self-awareness needs attention and practice. In the opinion of Derek Lidow, that I mentioned in my opening statements, self-awareness is one of Derek Lidow’s 5 mentioned attributes to becoming a successful business owner (Lidow, D., 2015, paragraph 1.). I am an entrepreneur in the early stages. I recently have started a small landscaping business as a part time job to start cultivating a path of entrepreneurship on the weekends and am still search for an outlet they will be most profitable though utilizing my skills, knowledge, and experience gained in life thus far. In my
Personal Leadership Action Plan (PLAP) 4 business though I currently have 5 customers and/or accounts that I service on a regular basis this past year. If I were to ask myself how I am viewed by these individuals to assess where I am now in regards to my values. I would say that I have been verbally assessed by different customers on different occasions as being detail oriented, a hard worker, reliable, honest, time efficient, and intelligent. These are positive compliments that will further aide me in my personal development trying to live up to my values and purpose. In utilizing the Myer Briggs Typology Indicator test I discovered that I am a ENTP, and/or a ENTJ due to lower preference of perceiving over judging. I believe this is relevant to assessing where I am now because I have taken this test in the past and received different results. The ENTJ test result indicates that I have a natural tendency to marshal and direct and may be expressed with charm and finesse (humanmetrics.com, n.d.). This test also indicated that a ENTJ requires little encouragement to make a plan, and feel compelled to carry it out (humanmetrics.com, n.d.). I agree that I do not require any motivation to carry out my goals personals in my personal business, but when working for others for a fraction of the income an hour, I would say financial incentive goes a long way.
