It starts to turn into steam because the water

This preview shows page 3 - 4 out of 4 pages.

It starts to turn into steam because the water molecules started moving too fast and farther apart to stay in liquid form. 6. The average or typical air pressure at sea level is 760 torr. This pressure may vary by ±15 torr depending on the weather. In stormy weather, the pressure drops lower and good weather brings higher pressure. The normal boiling point of water at sea level pressure is 100 C. From your observation of the boiling point and air pressure what can you conclude? With higher temperatures, air pressure will be higher; when water is boiling, the air pressure is a little bit higher than average. 7. Which phase change required more energy? From liquid to vapor
Name ___________________________________________ Date ______________________ Class ________________________ Abstract In this experiment, students will be able to study the phase changes as water is heated from solid to liquid to water vapor. With this experiment, students were able to cool and heat water in a calorimeter while the temperature was being recorded. The boiling point and air pressure of the water were recorded, as well as the drop in temperature from ice being added to the calorimeter on the graph. Conclusion In conclusion, the phase changes of a substance are based on the energy of the atoms that it is made up of. In solid or liquid states, the atoms have no movement/ slower movement than in a gaseous state. The temperature of the substance influences the phase change of the substance allowing the atoms to speed up or slow down. Water’s boiling point is 100°C and its freezing point is 0°C.
