when I met a little black African American boy that was an orphan and homeless. Since of the racism debacle in Maycomb, the local orphanage only took in white kids. My heart just about broke into a million pieces, and I couldn't just leave this six year old boy on the streets all by himself. I talked it over with Hank and we decided to temporarily take him into our home until we came up with a solution. After this occurrence my eyes opened up to a problem that I myself, and no one else never noticed. I was determined to do something about it, so that is how the orphanage came about. We house both

African American and white children, to us it doesn't matter. We do still struggle a bit with providing enough clothing, beds, and food for the children; but some of our kind neighbors are always providing for our needs. So this my life now Cal, I hope I am making you proud because part of who I am today, is because of how you raised me. You were not my mom, just our house maid, but you were the closest thing I had to a mother. Enough about me, how are you doing? Hows life back in Bluebell?
