Over-collaboration - Some tasks, such as writing the first draft of a document, are difficult in a group and will be easier individually. One risk of collaborating is you attempt to work together on every task, making you less productive. Once you have worked individually, you can still review the results as a group and make changes. Different styles - If you are attempting to produce a cohesive document, be aware of diferent writing styles and a logical structure. It may be necessary for one person to rewrite it towards the end to give it a single consistent voice. Also ensure that the sections don’t jump about; they should follow on as though they have been written by one person. Q10. Describe the difference between formal and informal meetings Answer: Formal meetings are used more often with people who don’t know each other well and to follow formal organisational structures. This way, it can be demonstrated that people are taking responsibility for their own area. The more senior the participants, the more likely the meeting are to be formal. Formal meetings are planned beforehand, scheduled, with formal agenda which should be followed, with formal meeting structure and it takes place at pre – planned place and time. By contrast, informal meetings often take place between people who see each other regularly due to working in close proximity. They may have an existing relationship and trust. Informal meetings include spontaneous day-to-day activity, such as going to another person’s desk, ringing someone up or talking to a person in the corridor. They say that first impressions are important; you need to ensure that you make every efort to look smart and to convey respect for the person. Good personal presentations includes; good hygiene, neat and iron clothes, looking well rested, and neat hairstyle. Professionalism o Professionalism is important to maintain the same level of professionalism while networking with all your work colleagues. Remember your business strategy and objectives for the event. Are you marketing the company, making contacts or looking for business? Have a specific, measurable goal in mind. This will allow you to retain the proper decorum. Be friendly and helpful, but not overly familiar, and try to leave a positive impression.
