Projects had become increasingly focused on operations and maintenance in an overriding effort to improve efficiencies within the business functions. The development of cross-functional integration systems and the use of internet technologies were only two of many emerging needs as AtekPC struggled with radical changes in its industry and market place. The AtekPC PMO was being implemented to provide more consistent and better practices for both business and IT projects. However, implementing a PMO was a challenge with required skillful management and new development. 9.) Which is a better set-up for the current situation – PMO heavy or PMO light? ‘PMO-Heavy’: Full staff of project managers responsible for all IT projects. ‘PMO-Light’: Minimal staff of experts working through internal project managers to PMO-heavy seems to be the best for the current situation at AtekPC . The management should realize that they not gain acceptance immediately from this approach. The demand for resources was more throughout AtekPC, and the PMO would need to prove itself in order to earn the resources they wanted. Therefore, there is a need to build support for the PMO-heavy model through project successes. AtekPC can implement a PMO-heavy approach furnishing project managers to the various groups. 10.) Was there resistance within the company in creating the PMO? Describe these events? Yes, there are resistance. The culture is stiff and slow in adapting the PMO. There are this events: Page 3 of 4
