talking, women, let me talk, I’m trying to find a way to tell you...I’m gonna be a daddy. I’m gonna be somebody’s daddy.” This is a very big tragedy in the play because of the fact that it was an emotional confession for Rose to endure. To hear that the man that she’s been with for eighteen years has had an affair with another women and on top of that got her pregnant is very devastating news to hear and is also very tragic. Another form of betrayal that is shown in Fences is when Troy tells his son Cory’s coach that he can’t play football anymore. This is also a tragic part of the play because Cory’s dream was to go to school to play football and hopefully get a scholarship. His father killed that dream when he told his coach he can’t play. This goes to show that Troy has betrayed his wife of eighteen years and his own son because of selfish reasons that led to tragic endings. Another reason why Fences can be seen as a tragedy is because of a unexpected death that occurs.
