Dollarama stores offer a broad range of quality consumer products and general merchandise for everyday use. Seasonal merchandise is usually located to the right of the entrance—wrapping supplies, cards, toys, disposable plates and glasses, and so on. They are the kind of items that many other retailers try to shoehorn in as an afterthought. Also, there's a great selection of pet food dishes, electronics, gardening and home supplies . At Dollarama, keeping up with the seasons and the celebrations that go with them is a big priority—at one downtown Toronto store on mid February, the last of the items festooned with red and white hearts were replaced with fuzzy pastel Easter bunnies and the like.. Their merchandise is sold in individual or multiple units at select fixed price points up to $2.00. However, their strategy is to grow sales, net earnings and cash flow by building upon their position offering a compelling value proposition on a wide variety of everyday merchandise to a broad base of customers. In 2011, direct overseas sourcing accounted for 54% of their purchases compared to 53% in 2010. While they still source a majority of the overseas products from China, they have been steadily increasing the purchases from other overseas suppliers in the last two years, including goods sourced from Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Thailand and Turkey. As a result, cost of sales is impacted by the fluctuation of foreign currencies against the Canadian dollar. In particular, they purchase a majority of their imported merchandise from suppliers in China using U.S. dollars.
