Nursing Management, when presenting to a group that contains administration it is important to know your audience. For this capstone and the number of managers and directors who will potentially be present for my presentation having an understanding of the benchmarks that matter to them in an important consideration. As a bedside nurse I have perspective of aspects that are an important aspect of care to me, but little of what is important to management. Learning from Nursing Management the fine balances between financial, employee satisfaction while meeting hospital goals and promoting a positive atmosphere is a tough place for a good manager to balance. Understanding what influences affect decision making for management will help guide knowing how to best present material for success both now and in the future. Key Point 3 In preparing my capstone project much of the research assesses the risk factors of older adults. This brings back to attention the age specific needs of the older adult that were learned in the RN-BSN program in The Holistic Care of the Older Adult course. While we learned certain aspects of age specific needs in my ADN program it was focused on the more basic physiologic changes not the whole adult. In learning to assess not just the physiological but the psychological and emotional needs of older adults I can better meet the needs of my patients. This project highlights that older adults are at higher risk for falling, but what was learned in this program was that reducing mobility increases their risk for falling further, and the fear of falling itself can be a handicap as once an older adult falls they may have a real fear that they may not be safe to live alone. Learning how to apply these concepts has already helped me in practice, in teaching families at the bedside for caring of their family member with dementia suggesting a toileting schedule to promote continence which will assist in self confidence and decrease the risk for skin breakdown. They are skills that are applicable into practice not just in assessment of my capstone, but at the bedside, and in the community and beyond. ©2015University of Texas at Arlington Save this document to your desktop or other storage device after each entry. Reflect on how why each point is important, how it impacts on your work experience or nursing practice, and how will you change your practice in the future based on each key area. Key Point 1 Transition to professional nursing, identification of professional nursing originations and review of my previous resume. For me this took me back to I believe it was transition to professional nursing when we had to find a local job to apply for and update our resume’s. That assignment was the first time I had looked at my resume since applying for new grad positions after nursing school!
