Areas subjected to least distention or stretch during the Animal’s life are of best substance and quality. Butt -Stoutest part of the skin. Most even inquality texture . Checking weight, Russ & small, Square board and Marking-up as the methods in leather measurement systems . 1. Check weight method” :- A piece of leather to be cut, then cut the upper components cut from this leather. The difference can be turned into a waste percentage. This depends on human element. It must be repeated with several clicker to get a fair representation of the expected result. The cost estimates are required before cutting. This method is a check on an existing costing. 2 .“ Square board and Marking-up method” No allowance was used .The cutter just drew the required leather for the job in hand. The cutting foreman would selects an average skin from the bundle. The skin was marked up with patterns at the average shoe size as they should be cut. The area of the skin was divided by the number of pairs which could be cut from it. This was used as a standard. Advantages The could be shown the marked skin to demonstrate the correct way. Future deliveries of leather could be compared with the marked skin. Disadvantages Foreman biased to ensure clicking room profit. No real average skin. The shoe size taken may not prove to be average of the shoe sold. No adjustment for size change 3. Russ & small In 1922 two American accountants introduced this method of scaling. It consists of interlocking of a pattern upon itself respectively until four patterns are facing the same direction. The like points on the pattern are joined to form a rectangle, a square or parallelogram which encloses one complete pair of pattern plus an avoidable waste.
