Student Materials for Microsoft Word Expert 2013 Student Plan PROJECT: COMPARING AND MERGING DOCUMENTS Estimated time: 35 minutes STUDENT INSTRUCTIONS This exercise provides an opportunity to practice skills learned in the lesson. In this exercise, you will work with tracking changes, comparing documents, adding comments, protecting documents, and auto recovery. There are five tasks in this exercise. The following practice files are required to complete this exercise: 1. ITA-40131A-01-Practice1 2. ITA-40131A-01-Practice2 3. ITA-40131A-01-Practice3 4. ITA-40131A-01-Practice4 5. ITA-40131A-01-Practice5 The following steps are more detailed and therefore, in order to gain practice, recommend student to use the high-level Instructions table in the sheet to perform the exercise rather than using these steps. Follow these steps for the first task: 1. Open the ITA-40131A-01-Practice1 document. 2. Select all the text in the document. 3. To add line numbers, on the PAGE LAYOUT tab, in the Page Setup group, click the Line Numbers drop-down menu. 4. From the Line Numbers drop-down options, click Line Numbering Options . 5. In the Page Setup dialog box, on the Layout tab, in the Apply to drop-down menu, click Selected text , and then click the Line Numbers button. 6. In the Line Numbers dialog box, select the Add line numbering check box, and then under Numbering , click the Continuous option. 7. To apply the changes, in the Line Numbers dialog box, click OK . 8. To activate track changes, on the REVIEW tab, in the Tracking group, click the Track Changes button. 9. To show revisions in Balloons, on the REVIEW tab, in the Tracking group, click Show Markup 10. To edit line 23 of the document, select the phrase, ‘any of them’, and replace with ‘a single one’. 13. To edit line 23 of the document, select the phrase, ‘I particularly dislike’, and replace with ‘My best friends are’.
