the same time. Channel bonding is another technique that has been implemented in order to achieve faster speeds.See, wireless networks only broadcast in a specific number of channels. For example, the 2.4 GHz frequency has 14 broadcast channels. Other specifications only broadcast in a single channel. For example, channel three. However, newer wireless networks use channel bonding to combine multiple channels into one. Thereby, increasing bandwidth and communication speeds. Summary 5:29-6:08 Well, that's it for this lesson. In this lesson, we looked at the structure of a wireless network, the different wireless network modes, and the role the access point plays, and the specifications and techniques used by wireless networks. Remember, wireless networks use the IEEE 802.11 specification. Different iterations of this specification exist, and are denoted by appending a letter to the end of the 802.11. Wireless networks broadcast in either the 2.4 GHz frequency or the 5 GHz frequency. And know that some IEEE 802.11 versions are not compatible with other versions, so when selecting a wireless device and access point, make sure they use the same version. Installing a Wireless Network Adapter 0:00-0:29 In this demonstration, we're going to look at the process for installing a wireless network adapter in a PC system. There are two different ways you can do this. One option is to install a wireless network adapter in a PCI slot in the motherboard itself. That is done occasionally, however most of the time you will use the second option, which is to simply connect a USB wireless network adapter into an available USB port. That's what we're going to do in this demonstration. Installing the Drivers 0:30-2:00 Now before you do this, understand that this system here has to have the necessary drivers to support the wireless network adapter that we're going to connect. Now, for some wireless network adapters, Microsoft will already have the necessary drivers within the Windows Driver Store, either on this local system, or through Windows Update. I happen to know that for this network adapter that I want to connect, that there is no driver available from Microsoft. Therefore, what I need to do is, go to the manufacturer's website, and then download and install the necessary drivers to support the USB wireless adapter first before I connect it to the system. Now, as you can see on this system I don't have any network access to the Internet, so what I have done is used a different system to go out to the Internet and download the necessary drivers, and I put them on a USB drive. If I browse to the directories that were created when I extracted the zip file containing the drivers, there's a setup file here that I can use to install the drivers on the system. So I'm going to right-click on it and run it as administrator. Alright, at this point the driver's been installed on the system and we're prompted to insert the wireless USB adapter into the computer.
