The CPS tool comprises the following modules—Module 1: Evaluating Your Store Room, Module 2: Procurement of Medicines and Supplies, Module 3: How to order Medicines and Supplies; Distribution, Systems for Health Facilities, Module 4: Procedures for Receiving Medicines and Supplies: Using Information Systems, and Comprehending Costs, and Module 5: Rational Use of Medicines. Inputs: one hour training. Output: better use and interpretation of the vaccine vial monitor. Step-by-step guidelines for training staff on the use and interpretation of the vaccine vial monitor. Three types of study techniques are being used in undertaking the full study in each country (structured questionnaire surveys on availability and pricing of medicines within the facility; key informant interviews on opinions of factors impacting on medicine availability for health facilities; and focus group discussions with selected representatives of some hospitals (as end customers of the supply chain)). Lessons learnt/maxims based on 25 years of technical assistance provided by CDC/CRH in contraceptive logistics matters to family planning programs in 65 countries in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Eastern Europe.
