ones. Now, through research and multiple experiments, scientists know that some forms of central nervous system damage can be repaired by the body’s system. Along with this knowledge, the scientists have uncovered a way to repair the spinal cord damage through different treatments. Scientists today have discovered that the brain exhibits a great deal of neuroplasticity, or the ability to constantly change both the structure and function of cells in the brain in response to experience and trauma. This would be like a recovery, for the brain is re-learning material already known. Scientists can implant nerve fibers from outside the spinal cord onto the damaged area, allowing spinal nerves to grow through the implanted fibers. Research is allowing scientists to further make developments to aid in treating spinal cord injuries as well as giving the research to others to fix different issues. Subsequently, scientists use lesioning to study specific parts of the brain and its functions.In chapter two, lesson six, it describes lesioning as the insertion of a thin, insulated electrode intothe brain through which an electrical current is sent, to intentionally destroy the brain cells at the tip of the wire. Although this study isn’t exactly a practical way to study the brain because no two studies are alike, it has had significant outcomes.
