Downloading and Installing Updates 1:42-2:06 And we're told that some of these updates need to be downloaded before they can be installed. Let's go ahead and click Download and Restart so that the system will download and install the updates. And now the updates are downloading. When they're finished, they'll be installed and the system will restart to finish the update process. If we want we can make it so that updates are automatically downloaded and installed on the system. To do this, we open up "System Preferences" and go to the App Store category. Configuring Update Settings 2:07-2:37 This is where we can change system settings for updates. Right now the system is set to automatically check for updates. It's also set to automatically download available updates in the background. In addition, let's make it so that updates for both the system and downloaded apps are automatically installed. By default, critical system updates and security updates are automatically installed. Which is a good idea to leave checked. This Show Updates button actually opens the App Store and takes us to the Updates tab. It's just another way to access updates. Summary 2:38-2:54

That's it for this demonstration. To review, we looked at how to update a Mac OS system. We looked at how to access the available updates, view information about the update, and initialize the download and installation of the available updates. We also looked at how to configure automatic updates and update settings. Performing a Firmware Update 0:00-0:42 In this demonstration, we're going to spend some time learning how to update firmware. Now there are a variety of different devices that you as a PC administrator might be responsible for updating the firmware for. For example you might need to update the firmware for the BIOS or UEFI on the motherboard of a computer system, you might need to update the firmware on a wireless access point or the firmware in a network router or even the firmware of a network switch. In this demonstration, we're going to update the firmware for a wireless access point, so in order to do this I first need to find out what the make and model number of the access point is so I know what firmware update to download from the manufacturer's website. Wireless Access Point 0:43-1:36 Now this wireless access point uses a web-based configuration interface and if we access that interface we can view all the information we need, so let's load Internet Explorer. And the IP address of the wireless access point that we can use to access the configuration interface is, notice down here this is an N300 Wi-Fi router and here's the model number of the device F9K1007. I'm actually going to copy that model number, let's open up a new tab now, so let's go over here on this new tab and access the manufacturer's website, it's and let's go to Support and in the model number field over here let's paste the model number that we copied earlier, press enter and we have search results.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
