throughout intestinal tract of human and animal feces, which can spread. Three main causes for this disease are food, water and animals. These causes can carry bacteria to the host. Salmonella has a greater risk with children under the age of 5. I believe this high risk comes from children lack of cleanliness, children are not likely to wash their hands after touching contaminated areas unless instructed by their parents. Elderly people can also fall into that risk group, due to their forgetfulness and their immune system is usually more vulnerable such as children.

Wright 2 It’s reported by the CDC that over 790 cases related to salmonella outbreak came from farms and backyard animals during the first 6 months of 2017. 53 of these outbreaks occurred between the years of 1990 to 2014. The number of outbreaks and hospitalizations as a result of infection with Salmonella has increased alarmingly in recent years (Betsy Booren, 2012). It is estimated that out of 9.4 million foodborne illnesses, Salmonella is projected to be responsible for about 10% of the illnesses, resulting in 19,336 hospitalizations and 378 deaths ( Majowicz et al., 2010) .
