refinancing, private banking, etc.). Willkie has also, especially in Washington, made further strides to improve the working environment (e.g., nicer attorney lounge and better snacks). • “Lockstep compensation and bonuses.” Quality of Work • “I’m given a good variety of work. The firm has great support staff resources, so junior associates don’t have to spend time doing tasks that are more appropriate for document review attorneys or paralegals.” • “I have been given some drafting experience and a good amount of responsibility earlier than a lot of my colleagues at other firms based on my discussions with them.” • “I spend most of my time on substantive and interesting work. Most of it is appropriate for my level, while some is above and some is below. Generally, I draft main deal documents, draft (or oversee juniors drafting) ancillary documents, and supervise diligence reviews. There are some other more nuanced tasks I do for certain clients that sometimes involves more administrative work, but doing that type of work is fine with me as it keeps me in touch with those clients even if we are not working on a deal for them at that time.” • “I have received substantive work since joining the firm. My work assignments contribute directly to the underlying goal of each particular matter. Additionally, there is a considerable amount of guidance and support provided to younger attorneys in completing their assignments.” Training & Mentoring • “The firm training and mentoring programs leave a lot to be desired. One bright spot is the 4th-year seminar, which is an event where the firm provides two days of programs on transitioning to being a midlevel associate. There were numerous social events with partners at the firm as part of the program. Definitely a great program, but would appre- ciate some more regular programs.”

I have learned the most from asking senior associates questions and sitting down with them when getting feedback on assignments, etc.” • “Mentoring is seriously lacking. Although we have a formal mentor program, mine don’t seem to reach out and I would say the same for my friends. It seems like a check the box type program.” • “There are regular in-house CLEs on typical corporate/ securities topics, which are usually pretty good. However, at the mid and senior levels, the training seems scarce.” The firm says: Willkie has a comprehensive training program, including a week-long orientation program and department- specific boot camps for entry-level associates, a “First Year Refresh” seminar in the Spring to provide additional training for the newest associate, a two-day training program for 4th year associates, an annual “Senior Associate Briefing” focused on business strategy and client development, and a full array of CLE programs. In summer 2017, Willkie updated its mentoring

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
