preventive measures. Additionally, they should build and develop evidence-based
interventions and strategies which include understanding risk factors,
understanding a broad theoretical sense of gender equity, and an understanding
about the theory of the whole problem, Jewkes (2014).
What are the roles of social media and the new technologies in informing and
mobilizing people to stop violence against women?
Social media can be used as a primary prevention tool in reducing the
increasing rate of violence against women. Social media can promote non-
violence among women and peace worldwide. According to Liou (2013), social
media can be used in making campaigns in fighting the rights and justice for the
women who are being victimized by abuse and violence. In fact, in Vietnam,
China, and India social media became a way of introducing their campaign,
“Love Journey” that aim to prevent violence against women. Social media can be
a part of interventions that are needed to support and reduce the victims of
abuse and violence. The campaign made by these three countries became an
effective way in mobilizing and informing the youth on how this issue is very
challenging and difficult to be solved it also promotes several discussions and
reflection topics on how to have possible solutions to this problem, Liou (2013).
Indeed, social media is not only for entertainment, it can also be used in
resolving major problems in the world.
Implications: Research, Practice & Policy
This paper helps us understand how severe the effect of violence
against women is in our society, our country’s economic growth, and to the lives
and health of the victims. The abuse and violence that women experienced result
from physical, psychological, and health problems such as being shocked,
traumatized, several injuries and diseases, and several emotional disorders,
(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). Apart from all of these effects on
their health and well-being, victims of sexual abuse and violence are having
trouble in communicating and associating with their family, relatives, friends, and
on their own partners.
Our government provides health care treatments and supports for the
victims of violence against women. Although it greatly affected the overall budget
of a country, it is a big help for the victims because they were able to overcome
and move on through the trauma they have been through. In my own opinion, our
country should prioritize providing enough and adequate facilities for the victims
of abuse and violence. Apart from that, they must create programs and health
and psychiatric treatment to help the victims to have a normal life.
