Years later, the Cartagians tried to exact revenge on Rome for the results of the war under the impressive leadership of Hannibal. Though he led an impressive campaign and effectively decimated the Roman army, he was unable to siege the city and this eventually allowed Rome to employ delay tactics, rebuild their army and eventually produce an army general of equal caliber to Hannibal that brought the nations to another decisive Battle at Zama, where Rome proved victorious (Morey, 1901). In conclusion, Carthage was a formidable foe to the Romans and nearly proved victorious in their efforts against the nation. Both nations learned to adapt to different fighting tactics and used skilled military leadership to engage each other. Eventually Rome attempted to erase the city after they had repaid their dues to Rome, however their tale of power and influence lives on in history (McBroom, 2017).
