Do you feel after the reading and discussion this week that you may change your leadershipapproach relative to how you observe behavior? I feel that we always have an opportunity to improve in the way we manage or lead our staff. As I have gotten older, and the people that I manage have gotten older, or now with the newer generations coming into the workforce, I must adapt to their changing needs. For me to do this, I must be aware of our corporate culture, and the behaviors within that culture that may affect my team, and their behavior. When I see that changes in behaviors have taken place, I need to be ready to react to those changes accordingly. How will you be thinking about how shared perceptions may be influencing individuals andthe departments? As a manager, I found it a bit difficult when my department started filling with the millennial generation due to the difference in what I call work ethics, and forms of communication. However, I have made it a point to look for strengths in my team that will help to build them together upon their communication skills which helps them to build a more cohesive team. I feel that now I have reached that point, they all seem to be working together Page 2of 3
with bouncing off ideas and suggestions that benefit the team. Before, you could drip a dime on the floor and hear the echo. With the younger generation, I have found that if you bring them in from the beginning and ask for their suggestions and opinions, then let them lead a project, it makes a lot of difference. Feedback is also a key, but I feel this is not only for the millennials, but for all employees to help them feel a connection with the team and the company. Page 3of 3
