The change will prioritize patient centeredness by having safer assignments which can prevent: medical and medication errors, patient mortality, hospital readmissions and length of stays, preventable events like patient falls, pressure ulcers, and healthcare associated infections. Staffing can prevent nurse fatigue, which can promote nursing safety, nurse retention, and job satisfaction, which all contribute to patient are and satisfaction. (American Nurses Association, 2015) When the patients are happier and feelthey are getting the best care possible, this can lead to better Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems Patient Surveys (HCAHPS) scores. According to the Hospital Compare Data, Avera Marshall scored 64% on the overall inpatient hospital experience.
