According to Bobbie, the organization has mandatory annual education for nursing staff. Education on EBP clinical care, such as Cauti and Clabsi prevention are among the annual requirements. Safe patient handling and fall prevention are also mandatory nursing education. Mercy NWA understands the need to follow National Patient Safety Goals to improve patient safety. A5. Characteristics of Organization The mission of Mercy Organization is, “As the Sisters of Mercy before us, we bring to the healing ministry of Jesus through our compassionate care and exceptional service.” (Mercy, 2019). As a result, Mercy has five values that guide their co-workers in what they do and what direction to take. These values are dignity, excellence, justice, service and stewardship. A strength of Mercy NWA is the culture of the work environment in relation to the mission and values expected from the employees. The organization has generous funding from it’s financial stakeholders and community donors, whom their support is valued. Bobbie identified two currentweaknesses within the organization, high patient fall scores and staffing shortage in ancillary departments such as lab and dietary. CAUTI and CLABSI prevention bundles are quality improvement projects in place. Bobbie says that giving bedside report was implemented approximately two years ago and has been a success, buy-in from the nursing staff was essential for this outcome. A6. Recommendation for Organizational Change It is recommended that Mercy NWA will utilize the Hester Davis Scale (HDS), a fall risk assessment (FRA) tool, for all inpatients admitted to the Medical/Surgical floor. The change will help reduce falls at the hospital. Fall prevention is a National Patient Safety Goal, at Mercy NWAthe goal is to have zero falls for three months per 1,000 patient days. Phillip (2019) describes thatan evidence-based practice change using the tool Hester Davis (HD) FRA, resulted in significant improvement in fall prevention knowledge, thus decreasing patient falls.
