Diagnostic tests- Congestive Heart Failure is diagnosed by first get a full medical history and physical exam as well as listening to your heart. Other test such as blood test which may include an BNP (B-type Natriuretic Peptide) blood test, you may be ordered to have an ultrasound called echocardiogram, or an electrocardiogram (EKG or ECG). Treatment- there are many treatments for Congestive Heart Failure depending on the stages of heart failure. Stage D uses the treatment method for stage A, B, and C which include regular exercise, stop smoking if you smoke, treat high blood pressure stop drinking alcohol and using illegal drugs taking a beta-blocker, reduce your salt intake, and talk about the possible of a heart transplant. This is just a few of the treatments. Prognosis- a person suffering from Congestive Heart Failure life expectancy depends on how well you follow direction, if your heart muscles are functioning, an if it was diagnosis early. Most patients suffering from Congestive Heart Failure have a life expectancy of five years. If your condition is an advanced one the patient may pass away within one year. Patients that are at the moderate stage may average ten years. The patient should consider having an advance directive or a living well in place.
