ATP temporarily stores energy and releases it for cells to consume. 10. Why are enzymes considered catalysts? Sketch me a reaction series involving an enzyme including labels. How are enzymes related to activation energy? Enzymes speed up reactions and therefore are considered catalysts. Substrate→ attaches to Enzyme to create enzyme-substrate complex→ substrate detaches to create products Enzymes lower activation energy. 11. How can enzyme functions be increased or decreased? Decreased: enzyme inhibition Increased: increase in temperature

12. What is feedback inhibition and how would you recognize it? Feedback inhibition lower an enzyme’s activity. This can occur competitively-- when an inhibitor binds to the active site before a substrate-- or non-competitively-- when an inhibitor binds to a different site of the enzyme, causing the enzyme’s structure to change overall. 13. Walk me through the three types of transport. Compare/contrast them and discuss the concentration gradient of each, if they require energy or not, and what types of molecules are moved through each one. Simple diffusion: doesn’t require energy; small, non-polar molecules cross membrane from high→ low concentration gradients

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
