By implementing a secure texting platform physicians and nurses will have the ability to text sensitive information that complies to both HIPAA and HITECH rules that are currently in place. The quality measure to be addressed will be an improvement in medication administration by addressing the timeliness of each medication and require that it be given within 30 minutes of the scheduled time for all ordered medications. The factors driving this change include improved HCAHPS, improved therapeutic levels addressed by medication administration, and increased adherence to the patient’s individualized plan of care, resulting in improved treatment outcomes. The safety outcome measure will be a reduction in patient falls. The supporting factors driving this change is a decrease in the number of lawsuits against the organization, a decrease in the length of stay per patient admission, and increased awareness of at-risk patients resulting in improved treatment outcomes. Unit specific shared governance will serve as the employee engagement outcome measure to be addressed. Drivers for a change of this nature will include an improvement in staff retention and empowerment as well as an increase in patient satisfaction and perception as indicated by HCAHPS. B1. Additional Indicators One additional indicator that is important to monitor on a regular basis would be an improvement in documentation of patient care. Accurate, appropriate, and timely documentation is crucial to overseeing nursing practices that is safe and high in quality and efficiency. Documentation can be used against an organization during litigation, so it is important that patient document to be clear, accurate, and timely and follow an organization’s policy and procedures as well as federal and state regulations as set by the Board of Nursing and other regulatory bodies. C. Advantages There are many advantages to using a balanced scorecard approach within an organization. The first advantage is to provide benefit to the nursing profession by promoting transparency into a single report which lists the expectations outlined in the mission statement
