You must watch the 90-minutes video on-line at  We will discuss  your thoughts about the screening at the end of lecture next Tuesday. There will  be questions on Midterm #1 about the screening based on the following  questions.  Look for examples of statements about the Internet and digital  communication that are shaped by utopian and/or dystopian perspectives.  What does the existing evidence say about our abilities to multitask?  What does Douglas Rushkoff blame for the problem of distraction?  How  does his view relate to technological determinism?  How many hours per week do most kids spend with digital media?  Why hasn’t there been more research into the effects of Internet use on our  brains?

Why did the documentary producers travel to South Korea?  What did they  learn from that trip?  How has South Korea responded to the problems caused by the Internet  and digital media?  The documentary presents conflicting views on what role digital media  should play in the classroom.  What are the arguments for using digital media in  classrooms?  What are the arguments of its opponents?  How does the experience of massive multi-player games like  World of  Warccraft  differ from the experience of games seen in South Korean?  What have studies revealed about how we respond to virtual reality?  How has the military begun to use digital technology and what do their  critics say about such uses?
