This is seen in literature when the writing goes through eras, there was the Romanticism era where authors conveyed the joy of everything around them, and the joy they wished they were enduring. As change occurred in America, they developed in to a new era, the Realism era, a time where authors did not tell anything but the truth. They wanted the readers to stop dreaming about what things could be, and to start realizing how things around them truly were. This is why Stephen Crane’s novel The Red Badge of Courage held such a deep impact on America and the readers, who went on the journey of the Civil War through the book. 3
