with Earth than I do. I also know that they would not build the Mayo Clinic or Hubble Space Telescope. They are mentally capable of such ventures but they choose not to venture in this way. The role of science and applied science in our culture is constantly and vigorously debated. We as citizens must then understand what science is and what it is not. I choose to be apart of those that explore our questions wherever that trail leads. It took great courage to launch the Hubble Space Telescope.

Slide 77: Science has served as a strong catalyst to our personnel freedom… Slide 78: There are many great questions that we humans may ask. However, even with our best efforts we may find some questions remain elusive. Slide 80: As we try to deepen our understanding of the universe at all levels we often find ourselves in this position…a new discovery leads to a deeper mystery and more questions Slide 81: There are many questions that science is unable to answer. Take the question of God’s existence. Science begins with observations/measurements. Since we are unable to measure Her weight, height etc., science has two alternatives. (1) God does not exist or (2) resolution of this question lies outside the boundaries of this way of knowing-this is not an effective tool to use to solve this problem. It is probably wise advice to have many tools in your toolbox. Just as you would not use a saw to fasten a picture frame to the wall with a screw, science in some instances is not the proper tool for the job at hand. Slide 85: Big ideas that lie ahead in our study. These are all game changing conclusions that define our cosmic maturity. Any other sentient beings that share the universe with us must at a minimum be this wise as we. These names represent pivotal figures in each model, and bring a human face to the endeavor, but they are by no means solely responsible. Ptolemy built on works of Hipparchus (160-127 BC), and Aristarchus (310-230 BC). The so-called Copernican revolution (weeks 5 and 6) happened because of Johannes Kepler(1571-1630) and Galileo (1564-1642). Hubble’s discovery (week 14) came alongside the work of V.M. Slipher (redshift), Heber Curtis (galaxies as “island universes”) and Harlow Shapley (distance measurements) to name but three. I have learned a lot of different things this week and some of the things are listed below. The scientific method does not give us a definite answer and hypothesis can be proven wrong with different methods. Theories come from scientific testing and are not loosely based ideas as I once thought. Theories are more fact than they are fiction or ideas. I learned to take a larger look at the big picture or to think outside the box.

The video in the power point of the murder crime scene showed how little I pay attention to what is going on in the background. I shouldn’t focus on the obvious and look behind the scenes.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
