d) Briefly explain how the studies reviewed in the ROL are sum- marized. d) It is mentioned that there are only three descriptive studies about individuals with SCT/SCD and their intention of becoming parents. Question #4: Study Framework. (For help with these questions, refer to chapters 8 & 18) a) How do the authors describe the study’s framework? Is it implicit or explicit? a) The authors imply that individuals with SCT/SCD have the right to make decisions regarding their reproductive health, however in order to do that they must have the proper knowledge regarding their disease and risks. The researchers also used the theory of reasoned action as a theoretical framework for the study. b) List the important concepts found in the framework. b) The concepts are reproductive health knowledge and planned behavior changes and intention. c) Does the framework present the relationships among the concepts? (yes / no) If yes, give one example of a relationship between two concepts. If there a map or model provided in the article, give the page number. c) Yes, the study discusses that the intention and behavior regarding pregnancy might change if individuals with SCT/SCD have more knowledge about the genetic inheritance of the disease. Question #5. Research objectives, questions, or hypotheses. (For help with these questions, refer to chapters 6 & 18) a) Does this article have objectives, questions, or hypotheses? Be specific and say which one of these three it has. a) Yes, it has a hypothesis. The researchers hypothesized that group with their CHOICES implementation would report increased reproductive health knowledge, planned behavior and intention than the group with the usual e-book format. b) List the article’s objectives, questions or hypotheses. Be specific and say which one of these three it has. Quote this directly from the article and cite it appropriately. b) “our specific aim was to compare immediate posttest effects on reproductive health knowledge, intention, and planned behavior change. We hypothesized that, com- pared with the usual care group, the CHOICES group would report increased reproductive health knowledge, intention, and planned behavior changes consistent with their parenting plan, when pretest scores were controlled.” ((Wilkie et al, 2013.) Question #6. Variables (For help with these questions, refer to chapters 6 & 18) a) List the major study variables. a) The major variables are reproductive health knowledge of individuals with sickle cell disease, and

the CHOICES implementation. b) Are the major study variables independent, dependent, or research variables? b) The CHOICES implementation is the independent variable and the knowledge of reproductive health is the dependent variable. c) What are the conceptual definitions of the major variables (Hint: from the review of literature)? c) The conceptual definition is that despite their being extensive knowledge about SCT/SCD available there is little knowledge available to those affected and therefore they aren’t able to make a fully informed decision about their reproductive health so an intervention to make this knowledge available is needed.
