Total scores: Technical Skill 24 Human Skill 24 Conceptual Skill 16 The first questionnaire is to provide us with the opportunity to see how others perceive us compared to ourselves. While I did not feel comfortable asking others to complete this questionnaire, this survey still was able to give me a perspective of how I come across to other people. This is a very useful exercise, as it allows me to understand my strengths and weaknesses from a standpoint I had not considered before. I can get an insight in to how other people might see me, and get their view on certain aspects of my life that I need to improve upon. When examining my results, a few things were made clear to me. I need to improve in the areas of Conscientious, Outgoing, Diligent and Perceptive. The reason for this is because if I choose to continue 13
in a leadership position with my company, these are skills I need to enhance to become a better leader. They are vital to every position and are very valuable to an employer. As I want to move up in my company, I understand that these are skills that I need to work on. I do believe the first exercise was very useful because it will greatly help me in my future efforts to improve my skills and abilities. According to this questionnaire, the greatest traits that I exhibit are trustworthy, friendly and dependable. I agree with these results, because these are the qualities that I know I possess and try to bring them to every aspect of my life. I always hope that I provide others with a vibe where they can trust me, and feel that I am a welcoming and open person. The second exercise showed that I am high in the technical and human skill, and then in the moderate range for conceptual skills. These results show that I am suited for a role that does not involve an extreme amount of responsibility and management, which is ideal for me right now as I am still a student. While I do have a fair amount of responsibility at my current job, it is nothing compared to what my bosses and head of the hospitality sector at the University of Guelph endure on a daily basis. I need to work on my conceptual skills, which will eventually help me land a role that is higher in responsibility. By 14
working on this, it will help me reach my goal of obtaining a higher management position in my career.
