a. The national government should only have as much power as was essential to
provide for the nation’s security and defence

b. Self-governing states would better fulfill the republican ideals during the
American Revolution
c. The Constitution did not limit the power of the federal government and it was an
infringement of the rights of states and individuals
d. The nation was already too big for a normal representative assembly and it
would create a gap between the central administration and the citizens
e. The Constitution gave Congress too much authority especially with the power to
put taxes and raise armies
f. More checks needed to be placed in order to keep the executive branch from
having too much authority
g. A federal judiciary system would be too expensive to maintain and infringed on
the states rights and the Constitution lacked having trials by a jury
h. The Bill of Rights would protect the citizens rights and liberties

peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
ii. Guarantees the right to the freedoms of speech, press, and religion. Protects the right to petition
the government.
