2.Do you see any similarities between the accident simulation and another accident discussed in this course? From the accident simulation, there are similarities between another accident discussed in this course, which was the American Airlines Flight 1420. Both accidents, Peak Airlines Flight 1680 and American Airlines Flight 1420, had the same probable causes. It was determined that the probable cause that the pilots failed todiscontinue the approach when severe thunderstorms and their associated hazards to flight operations had moved into the airport area and the crew’s failure to ensure that the spoilers had extended after touchdown (NTSB, 1999). The report of Flight 1420 specifically notes and explains the role of human factors, which were the role of fatigue and situational stress. Thus, both accidents also show the importance of mitigating human factor associated accidents. With so many aircraft accidents, currently, caused by human/pilot error, there is major concern on flight and maintenance operations. In order for accidents caused by human factors to deter, people in the aviation ecosystem, such as engineers, maintenance operators, pilots, ATCs, crews etc., must have knowledge of such error and apply this to overall human performance.ReferencesNTSB.
