strength of the relationship. The primary assumption of Kendall’s tau is that data must be
ordinal. In order to interpret the relationship between father’s educations and mother’s education,
Kendall’s tau-b was conducted. The analysis reported a statistically significant association
between the variables, (71) = 0.572, p < 0.001. In other words, more highly educated fathers got
married to highly educated mother’s and less educated fathers got married to less educated
mother’s (Morgan et al., 2013).
Why are the Kendall’s tau-b and Cramer’s V different?
When data in the variable are
measured at nominal level of measurement, use Crammer’s V and for ordinal data, use Kendall’s
tau to measure the strength of association between the variables.
