When stevens car breaks down in the morning of day

This preview shows page 1 - 2 out of 2 pages.

- When Stevens car breaks down in the morning of day three shows how he is out of place with present time. The man who helps refill Stevens’s radiator exemplifies the new handy work that is frequently practiced and how it is significantly replacing the work of a butler or a housekeeper since they were more popular before World War two. As a butler is it obvious that Stevens would be clueless on how to aid himself in natural day to day problems such as fixing your car or the tendency of your attention being distracted from one’s surroundings. - Another example that signifies Stevens’s profession becoming obsolete is fact that the silver polishing company Griffen and Co. is closing. Silver polishing is very prominent in the business of a manor house in order to keep everything tidy and presentable. However since silver polishing is no longer a top priority to many the manor house traditions of business are slowly beginning to disappear. Also through this the reader learns that Stevens’s only true contribution to history is how he is only familiar with polished silver leaving his character to seem somewhat pathetic.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
