This preview shows page 2 - 3 out of 3 pages.

Indifferent: parents who neither set nor display much affection or approval (low control, low warmth). Authoritarian : parents who are highly controlling and tend to show little to no warmth toward their children (high control, low warmth). -Ex: Yelling and hitting your child when they come home with a ‘B’ on their report card instead of getting an ‘A’. Give an example of the role of _______________________on family development Siblings -Ex: Siblings act as role models for their other siblings. Their behaviors dictate what is viewed as being right/wrong. For instance, if a boy sees his older sister smoking he will probably think her behavior is good and he should smoke too. As a result, her negative behavior may influence her brother to start smoking at an early age because she is modeling behaviors for him to follow at an early age. Culture -Ex: Culture has a big impact on many people’s lives, decisions, etc. For instance, if a girl is raised in a religious Catholic household and gets pregnant out of wedlock, she would be viewed as being a ‘sinner’. As a result, her relationship with her parents becomes strained and they kick her out of the house. She is then forced to survive on the streets and may run into dangerous situations. Stress -Ex: Stress can have negative and positive impacts on a family. Some stress can lead to resilience. For instance, a couple fights a lot and has a strained relationship which makes it difficult for them to focus on being attentive to their child. As a result, the child becomes lonely, depressed, and feels unloved by his/her parents.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
