Aaron Chen 1/15/2019 AMST 301 - 10408 Anna Deavere Smith, Twilight: Los Angeles, 1992 Quote: “I’m hooked on the news at six and the newspapers and every morning I read injustices” Response: The quote refers to the immense amounts of tragic and sad news reported in the news on a daily basis. Throughout media it can be easy to become fixated on what's wrong in the world, to read up on murders, shootings and natural disasters; ignoring what is going well in the world. Bad news makes better headlines and grabs the attention of readers faster than that of happy news. Becoming stuck on these headlines has been the cause of depression and a loss in the faith of humanity at times and its important for society to be able to balance both in times of despair. Especially with large influxes of news and easy access, it can be easy to fall down the rabbit hole of such. As a solution, one must stay balanced and remember to not immediately trust what they read in media overall. Anna Deavere Smith, excerpt from Talk to Me Quote: “Yeah. I think they’ve satisfied a lot of Black people by filling up the television with a lot of images of Black people, with the illusion that we are equal and alright because we’re making money, especially during the Clinton years - to pacify Black people.”

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
