the communists within the American government. McCarthy was once more inciting anxiety
concerning the subversive communists. The congress had conducted an investigation on
Hollywood on communism. In his speech, he claimed that the department of state in America
was aware of the communists’ dealings. McCarthy had also claimed to have a list of 205 people
who were communists (McCarthy, 1950). But, a week later he gave fluctuating numbers within

the same state department. The senator had no reasonable evidence on his claims, although the
American population and some prominent republicans like Senator Robert Taft and Congressman
Richard Nixon agreed with his charges (Corbett, 2018). His unsupported claims threatened many
people’s lives as well as careers and scared the majority of American population.
Analyze anti-communist sentiments during the Cold War era, were these sentiments
valid. If so, how? If not, why not?
